One of the most stressful things you will ever do is to go on vacation. However, going on a cruise can be one of the more stressful ways to vacation. Especially, when you can’t just get off the ship and stroll to the local mall. That is why there are some essential items you must have with you when you go on your next cruise.
- Before packing for your cruise, make a list of all the things you think you may need to take with you on your cruise. When you make a list you will decrease the likelihood of forgetting an item that you must have with you.
- Next check with your travel agent or cruise line. Ask questions about formal evenings or special events. This will help you decide the type of clothing you need to put on your list. If there is a dress code you may need to purchase the appropriate attire before the cruise or in some cases, some cruise lines may rent formal wear once you are on board. Nothing like showing up for dinner without the correct clothes to wear. Sometimes after questioning your agent you may find that a nice suit and tie for men or a cocktail dress for women will suffice.
After asking all your questions, double check your original list and modify it according to the information you have uncovered.
Do you need everything you have listed?
If not take it off the list. Keep looking at the list and modifying it until you are sure that you have every item that you need. Do not hesitate to continue revising your list up until you leave for your cruise.
When deciding how many clothes to pack just remember that most cruise ships have facilities to wash or dry clean your clothing. Of course that costs extra money out of pocket, but it does decrease the amount of clothes that you have to pack for your trip.
What kind of clothes should you pack for your cruise?
- Start with the basics. Pack neutral pants and shirts that are easily mixed and matched. Include basic shoes that will go with many different outfits. Of course space is at a premium so don’t go overboard with a pair of shoes for each outfit. Depending on the season you will probably want to pack a pair of sandals or comfortable tennis shoes. You will need a pair of dress shoes or heels for formal dining and depending on the type of shore excursions you may want to pack hiking boots. If you try to pack to much you will just weigh yourself down and take up space in your stateroom.
- Make sure you think about any daily medications or vitamins and put those on your list. Even though cruise ships have basic medical supplies and their personnel have some medical training, they are not equipped to supply passengers with prescription medications.
Another thing you need to remember is to talk with your Doctor before your cruise departure. That way you have plenty of time to fill your prescriptions, and check out your health before you leave port. If you plan on taking a long cruise make sure you obtain enough medicine to see you through.
- The last thing you need to add to your list is travel documents. Carry your picture ID, passport, and any other travel documents. The best way to carry these items is in a special travel bag. This way you do not have to open your luggage every time you need to present them. Also if your luggage is misplaced you are not stuck without identification.
By beginning your cruise in an organized manner and making a list of all the items you need to bring, you will be less likely to forget something important. However, if you do forget something you can always purchase it onboard the cruise ship or even while visiting a port of call.
